The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into full force on the 25th of May 2018 and represents the biggest change in data protection law in over 20 years.
Many are still unaware of what's involved, how it affects their business, what to do and the steep fines for non-compliance.
The new GDPR regulation is far more reaching than the old Data Protection Act (DPA). GDPR vastly extends the rights of data subjects as well as imposing many rules surrounding all aspects of data management, systems in which it is stored and the way in which it is processed.
The rules encompass increased security of data, how data is collated, how long it is kept and its relevancy, whilst imposing increased responsibility to be able to report data breaches and having systems capable of data protection by design.
The law affects all companies undertaking B2C & B2B marketing into the EU and the need to comply will not be affected by Brexit as a new Data Protection Act 2018 is being developed in line with the GDPR regulation post Brexit.
